Become a Mentor

Do you like to empower others?

Hoʻōla Nā Pua mentors provide new and healthy experiences to combat trauma.  

Qualifications:

• Over 21 years of age
• Ability to commit to 2-4 hours every week for one calendar year
• Background check clearance
• Commitment to 30 hours of training
• Volunteers are trained and equipped with the
  knowledge to provide trauma informed care.

As a mentor, you will be a positive influence in a young person’s life.

For those interested, an introductory meeting is held the first Thursday of every month.

Do you provide services to youth and young adults who are at high risk or have been exploited? Hoʻōla Nā Pua holds contracts and memorandums of understanding (MOU) with various private, public, non-profit, and governmental organizations. These partnerships create an efficient and effective delivery of service to youth and young adults.

Could you be the difference between safety and danger?

Hoʻōla Nā Pua provides customized presentations, training, and symposiums.  Each is adapted to fit the audience members’ role in helping to stop trafficking.

In-School and Community Presentations include:

• What is sex trafficking?
• Who is at risk?
• Why is it common in Hawai‘i?
• What are the warning signs?
• What are the dangers of social media, online gaming, and the internet?
• How can I get help for myself or somebody else?

Professional Training includes:

• The Federal and State laws on sex trafficking
• Prevalence nationally and locally
• Who is vulnerable
• The economics of commercial sexual exploitation
• The impact of trafficking
• Warning signs of exploitation
• The response to exploitation

Our prevalence data, case examples and tools for prevention and intervention vary between health care professionals, partnering service providers, teachers, law enforcement officers, and business professionals. Trainings are coordinated in order for trainees to understand their sector’s role in the community response. We believe it is important to equip individuals with knowledge and skills to appropriately identify and intervene when they suspect trafficking in the community. Everyone in our community plays a role in ending the exploitation of our children.
